Evernote has hosted T-shirt Design competition in Europe, Russia, and Korea over months. They pick 5 final artworks among hundreds of ones and let people vote for the best. They have said only one vote per an individual is allowed. You know what is ridiculous? The site has been built on Wordpress; in addition, a plug-in in Wordpress that is called ‘gd-star-rating’ has been used for the vote system. They knew individuals could vote several times by removing the cookie and different IP. Nevertheless, they have been using the same way in both European and Korean Design competitions so that competitors get as many friends as possible to know for Word-of-mouth Marketing. After all, they disqualified those who had fraudulent voting.
The bottom line is that Evernote somehow took advantage of users. They should have made qualified system for fair competition. In spite of knowing that the vote system caused controversy in European competition 2011, they’ve followed exactly same way in Korean one for Word-of-mouth marketing purposes.
